My Story

Dr. Chuck Maker

Staff Doctor
Dr. Maker is passionate about enriching the human-animal bond between horse and rider. Dr. Maker believes in life long learning to better enhance the care of his equine patients.  He greatly enjoys mentoring veterinary students and recent graduates and interns for the betterment of our professions.

He believes in the importance of keeping horses and our ranching heritage in the lives of local youth.
He and his family enjoy family travel and spending time in the great outdoors with their molly mule “Lilly”, reining mare Flicker and spoiled cat Bunny. Dr. Maker obtained his education at Penn State, the University of Tennessee and at the University of Minnesota’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Minneapolis. Thereafter he practiced in a large equine and cattle practice in north central Minnesota for 3 years before joining Alpine in 1997.
He enjoys both patient-centered equine clinical practice and veterinary practice management. His areas of special clinical interest are sports horse lameness and preventive and emergency intensive care. While trail riding in the backcountry is where he likes to spend his time in the saddle, his wife Cheri spends time reining on the western slope in the NRHA. He and his family love the small town feel and connectedness they feel with a junior and sophomore at RFHS and living in the Carbondale community.
