Equine Reproduction

Breeding mares can be accomplished by live covering of stallion to mare or artificial
insemination (AI) with fresh cooled or frozen semen. Embryo transfer is another option, which
involves moving an embryo from a donor mare to a recipient mare to carry a foal to term.
The technique allows elite mares with limited reproductive potential to pass on their genetics,
as well as obtaining foals from mares that cannot carry a pregnancy to term. Our local
Veterinarians are accomplished in breeding for mare pregnancy and follow up, foaling care for
successful equine reproduction.

Dr. Melissa Goldyn of “Goldyn Equine, LLC” and Dr. Kari Bevevino of “Roaring Fork Equine
Medical Center” can provide excellent breeding protocols in the Roaring Fork Valley and
Colorado’s Western Slope.
