Eva “Alexandra” Anwyl-Davies
Born in England, many years ago. Lived in Sweden. Educated in the French School system.
I had a passion for horses as far back as I can remember. My mother finally gave in to my passion and I started riding lessons at about 4.5 and that Christmas got my first pony wrapped up in Christmas paper! My New Forest pony, Winkie, took me from the ring to the hunting field, Pony Club to Prince Phillip Cup Finals. He lived to be a darling trouble maker to the ripe old age of 40. County Court came into my life when I was 9. A not so successful Irish thoroughbred race horse looking for a home. Mickeyfinn, my soulmate, as he came to be known, was an amazing horse who could jump anything anywhere. He was short listed as a back up horse for the Olympics with Marion Coakes. We competed successfully show jumping and cross country for many years. We did a lot of 5 team cross country which was a lot of fun and we never came less than 1st place. Out on the hunting field he definitely saved my life once. Nearly went over a “white cliff of Dover” in English Fog one early morning. Though not a good dressage rider (total lack of discipline on my part). I did have the opportunity to be trained by some of the best in Sweden at Strömsholm, at the time, home to the Swedish Cavalary. I had too many jumping trainers to remember but two do stick out in my memory: Mick Finnis Decathlon Silver Medalist, the D’Inzeo brother’s trainer in Italy. I also had the privilege of assisting at Buckingham Palace with “Riding for the Handicapped” in the 1960’s. I was very involved in trying to keep hunting alive in England in the 1990’s. But marriage, children and travel changed my opportunities and Mickeyfinn’s death was too painful.
I got back into equestrian activities when I came to the Roaring Fork Valley in 2000. Over the years, I have built several cross country courses, organized horse shows. I am the secretary to the MSEA, Treasurer for WCC, I was the secretary/Treasurer for The Woody Creek Hounds and currently serving as Interim Treasurer for the RFVHorse Council.
In my normal daily life I work for HomeAway, a division of Expedia and organize events for the Vacation Rental Industry. I have a small lighting business and a burgeoning ski business. Married to an Austrian, we live on the outskirts of Carbondale where Wahsabi, my 21 year old arab runs the roost with our two dogs Spanki and Evie.
