Meet the Equine Veterinarians of the RFVHC
Roaring Fork Equine Medical Center - Dr. Kari Bevevino
Dr. Kari Bevevino grew up in Allentown, PA and then earned a B.S. in Equine Sciences from Colorado State University in 2008. After graduating from CSU, Dr. Bevevino worked as a breeding manager of the 6666 Ranch in Guthrie, TX for three years.
She then went on to earn her DVM at Texas A&M University in 2015 followed by a two year internship at Brock Veterinary Clinic in Lamesa, TX. In an effort to further develop her equine expertise, she completed a residency at Texas A&M University in Large Animal Internal Medicine in 2020 becoming board-certified in large animal internal medicine.
Following residency, Dr. Bevevino completed a one-year fellowship in Equine Ultrasonography and Cardiology at the University of Pennsylvania New Bolton Center and Texas A&M University. She then joined Roaring Fork Equine Medical Center in August 2021. Dr. Bevevino is currently a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP), American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), and the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM). Dr. Bevevino’s special interests include equine cardiology, neonatology, ultrasonography, and sports medicine.
In her free time, she enjoys hiking with her dogs, golfing, camping, and snowboarding.
Roaring Fork Equine Medical Center offers both general and specialty care to horses in and around the Roaring Fork Valley. In addition to Dr. Bevevino as board-certified internist, there are two board certified equine surgeons, Dr. Eric Everett and Dr. Megan Lamb. RFEMC offers both ambulatory and in-hospital services. Alpine Equine Hospital - Dr. Chuck Maker
Dr. Maker received his veterinary education at Penn State and the University of Tennessee. After an internship at the University of Minnesota and private practice in MN, he arrived in CO in 1997. He is passionate about enriching the human-animal bond between horse and rider. Dr. Maker believes in life long learning to better enhance the care of his equine patients. To that end he enjoys mentoring and assisting with the professional development of equine interns and externs since 2009 assisting with the professional development of the next generation of equine veterinarians. He believes in the importance of keeping horses and our ranching heritage in the lives of local youth. Dr Maker enjoys all the Colorado outdoors have to offer both on foot and in the saddle with his mule Lilly.
Dr Maker enjoys all aspects of equine practice with particular areas of interest in sports medicine with his equine athlete patients, dentistry and emergency medicine.

Glenwood Veterinary Clinic - Dr. Sam Johnson
Dr. J was born in Boulder and grew up in south Denver. While attending high school at Regis Jesuit, Sam spent most of his free time working at an emergency clinic and volunteering at the Denver Dumb Friends League.
Sam attended Boston College where he earned a B.S. in Biology. While at BC, he worked as a veterinary technician, completed a large animal internship at the Denver Zoo, and studied abroad on the Galapagos Islands. Sam attended Colorado State University for veterinary school. After receiving his DVM, Sam pursued his passion for equine lameness and surgery via an equine internship in Florida.
