I help people going through relationship break-ups, especially from destructive narcissistic partners. I work with depression, anxiety, and trauma, as a result of various life events/transitions. Patients are often referred from their physicians & have a medical or health-related disorder. Therapy is a process of self discovery that enables you to recognize unhealthy patterns of behavior and learn effective coping strategies for optimal health and well-being. I provide a safe environment for psychotherapy through a warm, open communication style. I believe psychotherapy is a collaborative undertaking between patient and therapist; that listening, understanding and respecting each patient's unique story is necessary for optimal treatment. I moved to Aspen in 1970, currently live in Glenwood Springs. I offer a secure web-based video platform that is HIPAA compliant and fully encrypted. On-line telehealth is convenient and allows access to rural areas and accept several major insurances in Colorado. I am a horse person and volunteer at WindWalkers Equine Assisted Learning and Therapy Center. Author, No More Narcissists! Yoga for Equestrians, "I have been a certified yoga instructor since 2003. Yin Yoga for Equestrians with classes in my home yoga space - private, semi-private. Group practice (if there is a space anywhere perhaps a barn) and Workshops available. Will work with your schedule.
Yin Yoga for Equestrians will benefit your body and mind. Specific grounded poses to get into the deeper tissues of the body will help release long-held tension - often in the areas around the knees, hips, and spine. Working with breath and sensations can help calm the mind and bring about more focus, concentration, and awareness. This practice will help you stay more mobile as you age and is an important component to self-care. I teach all kinds of riders - trail, fox hunters, show equations and they really looked forward to the practice. Taking some time to focus on your body, mind and breath is an important means of “self care”.

Woody Creek Distillers is keeping an uncommonly close eye on its potatoes. Many of them are grown on Scanlan’s own 300-acre Chaparral Ranch; others come from small neighboring farms. All are free of pesticides and herbicides. The most common potato grown is an indigenous variety called Rio Grande. The distillers are also in the midst of a multiyear process, with the assistance of Colorado State University, to grow Stobrawas, a potato of Polish ancestry reputed to make the best vodka. The first crop of Stobrawas recently went into Woody Creek’s reserve-label vodka. These potatoes are nothing like those customarily used for vodka making. We invite you to visit Woody Creek Distillers at our beautiful distillery, tasting room, and retail space approximately 15 miles west of Aspen at 60 Sunset Drive, Basalt, Colorado. Here you’ll find the full line of Woody Creek Distillers spirits and branded merchandise, including hats, T-shirts, glasses, and flasks. But more importantly, you’ll be able to pull up a chair and enjoy Colorado’s best damn spirits.

Everything we do, from feeding our cattle to bottling our provisions, is an honor and privilege and we make sure each step we take is meaningful and with purpose. You can find our ranch nestled up against Crown Mountain, our patch of the Rocky Mountains that helps form the Roaring Fork Valley. It is more than a place where we raise cattle and ply our trade as stewards of the land. It is at the same moment a part of who we are and a relationship to our past, an archetypal figure of the West with its roots firmly planted in the pioneering spirit. When we take our first step onto the ranch each morning, the feeling of connection and responsibility to the land, our animals, and the community surrounding us is undeniable.

12. ___Farriers, horse shoers, blacksmiths
Josh Aikens Farrier Services
970-319-9905
Carbondale, CO.
[email protected]
Serving horses and our veterans every day. A mobile full-service farrier. I travel where needed. Josh Aikens is not new to the RFV, and he is now opening his farrier services to valley wide clients after a leave of absence. When he first came to the RFV, Josh worked as a dog sledder and then joined up with Primal Meat Company and fell in love with cows and the more serious side of ranching. After moving into the Longmont Colorado area to grow his family, Josh went to farrier school, interned as a farrier and has now returned to the valley to shoe horses, when not attending to his ranch management duties. A former marine, Josh works with all breeds, and all sizes of horses.
A percentage of the cost of every horse we work on goes to Operation Equine, a Colorado non-profit that serves vets through equine guided therapy and back country pack trips. Josh’s experiences range from hot shoeing performance horses, barefoot trimming, aluminum nail and glue plates, corrective shoeing with diagnosis with vets involvement, and Josh is knowledgeable about Natural Balance and tradition shoeing techniques. Josh can be called in cases of emergency, to stabilize and help recovering care in cases of laminitis, accidents or punctures with the assistance by xrays and an attending vet.
He says, “There is nothing to me personally, more gratifying than watching a horse walk off soundly and happily, after I have worked with the horse and his owner. I am also available to provide training services for young and old horses that have never been schooled to stand for the farrier. There is an extra cost involved in this work."

End of the Trail Rescue (Affiliated with Dream Catcher Therapy Center)
Our Mission: End of the Trail offers horses a second chance to be cared for, nurtured, and valued by providing shelter and humane treatment to horses that have been abused, neglected, or unwanted and educating the community with reference to animal abuse as well as how or where to report it.
First Steps is a new program designed to assist owners of untrained horses. This will be a new program we are starting at our facility, hopefully launching by the end of this year. Our trainers will offer training customized to each individual horses needs at a very affordable price. This training will be offered to both the horse as well as to the owner of the horse.
We have created this program in an effort to reduce the number of horses sold to slaughter each year. We have found that the majority of horses sold to slaughter locally are registered, sound, young animals lacking any kind of training. By providing a solution to the problem we hope to increase horse awareness and decrease horse slaughter in our area.

Geoff Harris specializes in Colt starting, Behavior modification, and Foundation work. His goal is to build a better bond between rider and horse, by building acceptance and confidence within the horse. His blend of vaquero and western horsemanship, works on dealing with the mind of the horse, building confidence in the horse, in ourselves, which builds the horses trust in us. As best put by Ray Hunt, “The horse is doing one of two things: he’s doing what he thinks he’s supposed to do, or he’s doing what he thinks he has to do to survive” AND, therefore, “Recognize the smallest change, the slightest try.”

Early settlers reached the Snowmass Capital Valley through what is now called the Watson Divide. These settlers sought out the valley’s native hay meadows and began to produce feed for the horses and mules used to supply the many local mining operations. John R. Williams, one of these early ranchers, established his homestead in 1883. His ranch, the Williams Brother’s Ranch, included a part of what is now the Lazy O Ranch. The ranchers who staked their claims in the valley enjoyed a long record of stability. The Williams Brothers Ranch was passed down through family generations until it was purchased by Harold Pabst (of the Pabst Brewing Company family) in the 1950s. In 1980, Harold Pabst divided his ranch into three parcels, keeping the parcel to the east along Snowmass Creek, selling the center parcel to John Denver for the establishment of his Windstar Foundation and the westerly parcel to Jim Otis for the establishment of the Lazy O Ranch.Jim Otis, an architect and planner from Chicago, then originated and developed the Ranch with support from local professionals from the Aspen area. After careful study and consultation with environmental specialists and engineers and the Colorado Division of Wildlife and area authorities, they developed a special plan for the Lazy O Ranch that preserves the natural beauty of the land and perpetuates its rich ranching heritage. The Ranch preserves the 130 year-old agricultural and ranching operation of the land while protecting the native wildlife of the mountainous terrain.

There are miles of pasture riding and trail riding on the Lazy O Ranch, the adjacent Windstar Ranch, BLM land and a portion of the St. Benedict Monastery land for a total riding area of 4,000 acres

30. ___Therapeutic Riding Programs
End of the Trail Rescue (Affiliated with Dream Catcher Therapy Center)
Accomplishing our goals require diverse activities, such as, public education and outreach, horse sanctuary and protection; medical and rehabilitation, and equine therapy programs, which pair horses with humans in order to foster healing and good mental health. We are in the process of expanding our services and capabilities in order to meet growing needs in our area. We also want to ensure that we provide for horses and people's needs for the foreseeable future. With your help, we can build an amazing legacy for horses, and people in need. We offer Riding Programs & Clubs for Kids, Adults & Seniors. Studies show that youths who learnt horsemanship skills showed better decision-making, thinking, communicating, goal-setting and problem solving skills. Working with horses helped them develop values and life skills that they transfer to their everyday life. In addition kids gained more Confidence, Leadership Skills, Compassion, Patience and got more Exercise. The lessons kids learn from horses are too valuable to give up on.

Riding Institute for Disabled Equestrians (RIDE)
A 501c3 Non-Profit
Purpose: The Riding Institute for Disabled Equestrians (RIDE) is a private, nonprofit organization designed to provide equine assisted activities through therapeutic programs to children and adults with disabilities physically and mentally and emotionally developmentally and offers equine-facilitated mental health activities. RIDE is a member of Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International. (PATH Intl.) Our program supports mentally at risk students and RIDE offers teambuilding activities from the Garfield School system
Benefits: Equine activities can develop self-awareness, build self-confidence and improve concentration and self-discipline. Horses give the people with disabilities a feeling of freedom and independence. The experience provides incentive for learning. The rider seated on a horse is gently and rhythmically moved in a manner that is similar to human walking.

Surmount Counseling LLC
Surmount Counseling provides equine-assisted psychotherapy in the Roaring Fork Valley using the Eagala Model. Unlike traditional talk therapy, this approach focuses on learning through actions to facilitate growth and healing. Horses, like people, have an intuitive nature along with personality, attitude, and moods. Because of this, horses have a special ability to connect in unique ways. That connection can help you to focus on the present, identify your feelings, and work through barriers without shame or stigma.
We work with children, teens, adults, and families to address issues related to trauma and attachment, stress and anxiety, depression, grief and loss, LGBTQ, eating disorders, self-esteem, relationship and family issues.
