Jax- 20 year old registered black and white paint gelding. He is well trained and handy to ride. Jax is quiet and kind for a beginner at the walk or on lead line. At the trot and above he likes to go so would be better suited for an intermediate or above level rider. He was used as a roping head horse before I got him. He is also unfazed by polo mallet, polocrosse or bow and arrow. I have used him for mounted archery. He does not mind the sound and movement of mounted archery. He is fabulous on trail rides and will go all day. He can go out alone or in a group. Jax is the same horse if you ride him every day or once a year. He is predictable, level headed and very personable. He does benefit from front shoes in the summer, and would need shoes all the way around if ridden in rocky terrain. His hoof walls tend to break off in dry summer weather and on rocky ground. He does have some arthritis in his legs from his rodeo days, so hard riding with lots of hard stops and turns would not suit him. He is cinchy when saddled, but treats or allowing him to graze while tightening the girth, as well as taking your time and tightening very slowly have worked wonders for him. He is up to date on veterinary, dental and hoof care. Jax does not require any medical maintenance. He is a very sweet boy and I will only part with him to a good home. . $2,000 adoption fee. The "adoption fee" is very flexible to a good home.
Angel- 33 + grey Connemara pony mare. Angel is an Elder pony but she is sound – perfect for the youngest children -and she is great on ground – loves to be groomed, and climbed on. This little mare lives up to her name and is the perfect beginner kid’s horse. She will babysit even the tiniest of riders. Since she is advanced in years, she should be walk trot only. She is a dream on the ground, is patient and kind. She has age related tooth loss and requires a senior mash at least once a day, ideally twice a day. She can still munch on regular hay but does need the extra feed to keep weight. Angel has been diagnosed with Cushings and is on Cabergoline. She also has chronic (age related) diarrhea that periodically comes and goes. She is on Platinum Balance Probiotic. She has great feet and can go barefoot year-round. She is up to date on veterinary, dental and hoof care. Angel will come with 2 pony sized winter blankets. Old horses with Cushings should be blanketed in the winter as they can have trouble regulating their body temperature. $1000 adoption fee is being asked but the price for this RFV favorite pony is very negotiable. (flexible to a good home)
Lady- 23 year old registered chestnut Arabian mare. Lady is a very personable and sweet horse. She takes a while to warm up to her people, but once she trusts you she is very friendly. She was used as a broodmare most of her life and has not had much training. While she does not know the riding aids well, she is very quiet, almost lazy to ride. With a little training, she would be a stellar riding horse. She is great on trails and in the arena. She does get very attached to her herd mates and would be difficult for a beginner rider to ride away from her horse friends. If she rides out with her horse friends, she can be trusted with a beginner. She is so mellow and quiet on trails with her horse buddy, I have ponied 4yo kids on her. As long as she is near her buddy, she can be ridden by a beginner. She has good feet and can go barefoot all year round. She is a very easy keeper and has foundered once while I have had her when she was left on grass for too long. She would do best in a situation where her feed can be limited. For details on the rehoming of these nice horses, please go to the RFVHorseCouncil.org website and the CLASSIFIED ADS for owner details and contact info. $700 adoption fee is being asked but the price for this RFV favorite Arabian is very negotiable. (flexible to a good home).Brad Knotts <[email protected]>

I am in the Roaring Fork Valley Horse Council Directory (Yin Yoga for Equestrians). However, I am writing to ask if anyone in the organization might have a companion donkey for sale in the area. I need a companion for our gelded standard, Loki. Would prefer a Jennie or another gelding. Can you possibly, ask around for me. I live in Missouri Heights in Carbondale. We have a sweet barn, a nice dry lot and a grazing area. The donkey would get lots of love and attention.
Warmly, MaryAnne Hägglund

Caldwell cutting saddle for sale. 16" seat, 9000 series, serial number - 213 013 9000 160. I sold my cutting horse and then rode it very little on the trail. I don't need it anymore and would love to pass on to someone who would love it. It has been kept in excellent condition in a heated tack room and given great care. Beautiful custom conchos, fine Herman Oak leather and the awesome construction of Sharon and Tom Caldwell. I have enjoyed riding this saddle, although it has not been used as much as I had hoped. Hello!! I’m a nurse relocating to the area from Georgia, and I am also an avid horse woman. I found your council through Facebook as I was looking for ways to plug into the horse community in the roaring fork valley. I was wondering if you could give me some resources for good and affordable farms in the area for trail riding and possible lease program? I don’t have my own horse at the moment, but I am still looking to ride. I also am very interested in possible barrel lessons if you had any recommendations. I have ridden English (hunter jumpers, dressage, eventing) my whole life, but I worked on a ranch doing wrangling in Creede for a few summers during college and wanted to explore some more western pleasure possibly. Still interested in English as well of course! To contact Caroline email her at [email protected]

Experienced horse person looking to work in exchange for riding, or possibly housing. I have 20 years of experience working with horses. I have cared for 50+ stall barns ranging from Standardbred racing barns, to Eventing barns. I have groomed and been a working student for a Grand Prix barn in IL.
I know the importance of feeding horses at the same time every day and how to tell if they are colicing. I am currently a scientist at the Mayo Clinic and know a lot about paying attention to detail and vet care. I can give shots, do syringes and fix abscesses, etc.
I have owned horses, but can’t afford to at this time. I horse sit for my parents a few times a year, and can learn just about anything. My riding experience was mostly in eventing, but for the past 10 years I have only ridden as a hobby and mostly trail ridden.
For the past 3 years I have been working with a paralyzed woman and helping her ride/ take care of herself.
I am looking to ride for fun, to get strong enough to take some lessons and truly benefit from them. I can provide at least 3 references.

She is in Colorado right now, so the location is not super important because I am traveling. She may need to be monitored on the spring grass." Reasonable and affordable -

We have received two emails asking for RFVHC help. One is to re-home a really cool cattle dog, the other from a Florida girl, in Aspen for the summer, that wants to exercise horses. I have asked each to help the RFVHC by supporting us through membership. Our classified ads are one reason to join the Horse Council, the Directory which is getting better and is also helpful to all our members by "spreading the word" about their equine services. Please ask your friends to join and help keep horses on our landscapes, in our stables and on everyone's minds. Help us protect our Western Heritage!
RFVHC member is looking for trail riding recommendations:
Anyone have recommendations for good places to horse camp locallyish this weekend? I'm looking at Marble, Meridith, Indy pass areas, but I can't really find anything that looks like it'd work. I'm hoping for a place to park the truck and trailer to use as our camp and home base, with some good long trails to ride out on for day trips. — looking for recommendations. [email protected]

Looking for a horse to lease for Summer 2019, at 6’ 212 lbs, I’d prefer a gelding of at least 1200/1250 lbs.
Contact Aaron Abelman [email protected] Aaron is a RFVHC member
Here’s my horse background:
1986-1996 : volunteer horse wrangler at Mayan Dude Ranch in Bandera, Texas. I fed, mucked, saddled and trail rode. Summers.
1996-2005: summer job horse wrangler at Mayan Ranch. Led and dragged trail rides as well. Tamed new horses.
2005-2008: full time wrangler Mayan dude ranch. Did above plus some farrier work.
2001-2011: undergrad and grad school volunteer at conners carriages and occasions outside Tallahassee, FL. After school riding and weekend trail guide.
2017: partial lease of Jasper - Oldenburg cross gelding for trail riding twice a week.
October 2017-oct 2018: part time to full time ranch hand at Windwalkers in Missouri Heights. Rode very rarely.
October 2018-dec 2018: ranch hand at smiling goat ranch in Carbondale. Fed, mucked, lunged, and rarely took a dressage lesson geared toward Horse Boy Method.
My goal is to be riding trials for pleasure ASAP and since I have not owned yet I believe the logical step would be to lease first. I’d love to have a horse for the summer to ride at my leisure. I can board onsite or commute to a nearby property. I am financially capable of lease terms. I can provide tack if needed. At 6’ 212 lbs, I’d prefer a gelding of at least 1200/1250 lbs.

A soon to be RFVHC member.... is looking for pasture care for her horse - her horse will need daily hands on care to make sure her rump stays clean. This is a daily and necessary maintenance job for the mare's wellbeing. We are pointing her to our RFVHC Directory - so if you and your stable can care for her horse, and you have room for one more.... the owner writes...." She is in Colorado right now, so the location is not super important because I am traveling. She may need to be monitored on the spring grass." Reasonable and affordable -

Hi there!
My name is Belle Jurgensen. I’m an Aspen native currently enrolled at CSU in the Equine Science program. I have taken this spring semester off and am now back home for a bit. Im hoping to bring back a 3 year old filly the 3rd week of April. I’ve been looking around for a smaller scale- perhaps private facility that I might be able to board her at while I continue with her training. I have been involved with all the larger boarding operations and am just not sure what else I might be missing so I thought you guys may have more resources or a better idea of any possible options.
Thanks so much, For more info for Belle contact us at [email protected]
