Update #2
Dear Friends,
Thank you so much for your generous donations towards the rescue horses. After we went down and picked up the horses, I was absolutely sickened that 1 of the 3 horses, Brody, should have been euthanized a long time ago. After we brought them home I had the vet confirm my worst suspicions the very next morning. They all are sick and have high fevers. The 2 mares should make it. The older mare, Bambi, has a permanent deformed jaw, not an abscess as described. She was probably stepped on by her Mom while a foal. The younger mare is sick w/ 103 fever and congestion. The older paint, Brody, has such a debilitating permanent leg injury (not an abscess as described): an old fracture in his front leg, leaving permanent nerve damage, that he can’t even walk. He will never be comfortable and is unable to lie down or get up. He should have been “put down” a long time ago (I surmise he was a pack horse that fell down and was never taken care of. His nose was broken too).
We sent Brody to Heaven early this morning having spent the last few days grazing knee deep in a grassy field with lots of love and attention. He is in a better place now. He is buried here at the Ranch.
I have named the young filly “Hope”. The was a name suggested by one of you.
Unfortunately, The “Colorado Miracle Feedlot Rescue Organization” gals are blinded by their mission to save these horses. They should have been more forthcoming describing them more accurately on their website. We at Crystal Springs will feed Bambi and Hope over the Winter, take care of their health, feet and vet care and take another look come Spring. They are in quarantine for the next month as they are in very poor health. They are dull and listless. I wish I could be more optimistic. Hopefully, in time, the mares will come around mentally and physically.
Thanks again for all your generosity and kindness.
Sincerely,
Kathy
