Yin Yoga For Equestrians
It is with great confidence that I write to recommend MaryAnne Hagglund as a yoga instructor for Yin Yoga for Equestrians. I have practiced yoga with MaryAnne for years and had never experienced yoga before my first class with her. She was the
perfect person to introduce me to the lifestyle of yoga because she not only addresses all three aspects of yoga: mind, body, Spirit; but, she understands human anatomy and is a stickler for making sure her students learn and execute poses correctly.
Many people I have encountered in life tell me they do not like yoga because they were injured in a yoga class. This would not happen with a methodical, careful teacher like MaryAnne who has tremendous patience, the ability to inspire, a countenance of humility, and an inner peace that she shares during a yoga class with her quiet movements and her beautiful voice.
Since practicing with MaryAnne, I have become a lifelong Yogi. I have tried other venues including hot studios and various places all over the country. When I go on trips, if I have the time, I seek out the nearest yoga studio, and it is always my favorite souvenir! So I can honestly say I have experienced a variety of methods and teachers and I feel very lucky to have practiced under one of the best for so long. MaryAnne gave me the gift of yoga, and no matter where I go, whether I get any individualized attention from the teacher or not, I am equipped with the ability to protect my neck and knees, etc, because MaryAnne taught me well.
I am also a life long horse person. And I live on a farm in Virginia where MaryAnne used to teach at our local fox hunting club. She was surrounded by crazy horse people who had various ailments with their bodies as we are all aging! As a 59-year-old equestrian who still fox hunts several times a week in first flight, which is the galloping/jumping riders, I find that a yoga practice is critical for building and maintaining the muscle foundation to help my body stand up to the demands I place on it from the saddle. You would be lucky to have a team member like MaryAnne. WE MISS HER SO MUCH!

May Anne Hägglund was my Yin Yoga instructor for several years and I really enjoyed our sessions. I am an active equestrian and a mom of three boys, so Yin Yoga was very beneficial for me. Yoga helps riders with their posture, releasing tension in their lower backs and hips, and shoulders. It also helps with breathing correctly which can increase relaxation and focus while riding. I often use my yoga breathing to calm my nerves at a competition and it makes a big difference. I would highly recommend Mary Anne as a yoga instructor for equestrians because she has years of experience teaching riders and she is highly competent and pleasant.
